Amphibians in the Dordtse Biesbosch

Due to the wide tidal range before the closure of the estuary the Dordtse Biesbosch was in the past an unsuitable habitat for amphibian species.

The changes caused by the Delta plan have meant that there are now five species of amphibians to be seen:- Smooth Newt (Triturus vulgaris), Common Toad (Bufo bufo), Common Frog (Rana temporaria), Lake Frog (Rana ridibunda), Water Frog (Rana esculenta synklepton)
